Season 13

Written by Toma Pro CST at 23:28 8/10-2010

  What a season it was, Toma Pro CST was on the number one spot of the Top Movers list almost all season long. To top it all off, it were Batenburg and Sijmonds who took the award for Toma Pro CST as Breaktrough Team of Season 13.

  Batenburg; "we wan't to thank all of our fans and managers from other teams which voted for us. It was a small win but I think we deserved it, the team moved up all season long."

  But now it are different times, today we ride the Alpe d'Huez Classic and with a 6th place we were very happy. Not only because of the points but most of all for the money. The money flow is a bit stuck so the team manager Mr. Cobble Classic it thinking about selling his domestique Italians Francesco Fanichi and Gaetano Faginini. This to fully train the other Italian Alessandro Guerini and Dutch sprinter Reinout Veldkamp.

  The teammanagement has the plan to fully train Guerini, Veldkamp and Van der Valk. After that they will go on a hunt for new talent. But is has to be in the countries were our sponsor is active, so he should be Dutch, Italian, Belgium, German, French or Danisch. Season 13 was very heavy for our riders and we were glad to have some new domestiques half way the season, we also found a very good lead-out for Sijmonds. Danish rider Rainer Rahbek, who was bought after some rough negotiations from Team Kernow. Rainer was glad to move to Holland because it was much closer to his family and friends in Denmark.

  The team dicided not to join the World Championships TT, this because Guerini wasn't fully recoverd of his broken collarbone. But when he's fully trained we hope to join it the next season because we think Alessandro has a good shot of winning this race, but who knows what competition is up next year. What we actually did on the last few days is having a meeting, we did take a look at the goals we did and didn't achieve;

   • Become a team in the Division 2 - Zyte Division (Achieved)
   • Fully max Lowie Batenburg and Filippus Sijmonds (Achieved)
   • Fully max the sprint skills of Reinout Veldkamp (Not Achieved)
   • Gain 10 results from which are 3 wins (Not Achieved)
   • Gain a new rider for the team and end-up with a minimum of 12 riders (Not Achieved)

  To fully train Reinout Veldkamp was and is still a lot of money, we thank god on our bare feet that we have Sijmonds, Batenburg and now Veldkamp which are really great riders. Maybe Van der Valk is also a decent rider, the future can only tell us that fact. Also we didn't gain that many results. Batenburg and Sijmonds gained a lot of 4th places, 7 actually only in season 13. That was a shame otherwise our Merchandise Shop had grown from $100 to $200, it could make a real difference in this times of economy.

  The team gained 5 results and 1 win, so 6 in total. To give you some nice other figures, here is a sum of our season;

  Season 13;
  Total points of 1598
  Average points of 17,76 a day
  Our best rider was Lowie Batenburg with 1090 points and a 22nd OCM Ranking
  Upcoming talent is Van Der Valk with Good in TT, TQ and SP
  Best newbie is Rainer Rahbek which is a great lead-out
  We gained 1104 points more then in season 12
  Toma Pro CST's estimated value is $ 955.625,-

  In the meeting at the end of season 13 the teammanagement also talked about new goals to achieve, they came to the following conclusion with agreement of the sponsor Toma Cycles.

  • Gain a minimum of 7 results
  • End the season with a minimum of 15 riders
  • Fully train Alessandro Guerini and Reinout Veldkamp
  • Transfer a talent with at least Very Good to the team
  • Don't end up lower then 2nd - Zyte Division

  Those goals should be possible and also captains Batenburg and Sijmonds were very happy to see that the goals were made with some reality thoughts. Well not all air is clear around Toma Pro CST, after the Award ceromony there were a lot of rumours that Reinout Veldkamp wanted to leave the team. He said in "Cycling Magazine" that he was able to be captain but might not get that chance at Toma. So teams start rumouring and so the ball started to role, we talked about it with Reinout and he said it were never his intensions to start a "hype" around him.

  Veldkamp is only maxed in FR and TQ so he could be a captain and it is not that he's the only one who sees this, we as a team management also see it. With a Very Good SP and a Small CL and DH he could be a rider which is able to win a lot of different races which end up in a sprint. But we will see if the team is big enough for two sprinting captains, maybe the management get's a nice offer and then Veldkamp's dream to be a captain could be reality...
